Biography:
Born in Udine in 1961, he studied bassoon with Vojko Cesar and Gilberto Grassi. In 1979 he moved to Turin to attend computer courses at the University. There he met Vincenzo Menghini, with whom he graduated with honours three years later. He immediately distinguished himself in some international competitions. In 1983 he attended advanced courses at the Accademia of Portogruaro with Ovidio Danzi. In 1984 he got the position of principal bassoon in the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala and also in the homonym Filarmonica. Since then he cooperates to all this prestigious orchestra’s tours, recording and television broadcasting. In 1986 he went to Philadelphia to study with Bernard Garfield, principal bassoon of the Philadelphia Orchestra. In the 90s he studied with Brian Pollard, Solo Bassoon in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra. He collaborates with important chamber music groups together with soloists and members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Phil., Bayerischer Rundfunk and Orchestra de Paris, and very often participates in international competitions and job auditions as a jury member. He’s regularly invited to the Bayerisches Staatsoper. In 1989 he went to an important tour as a soloist in Japan’s main universities. In 1992 he held a recital at the I.D.R.S Convention of Frankfurt and was a jury member of the “Ferdinand Gillet Internatinal Competition”. The same he did in 2001 in Morgantown West Virginia where he had the first performance of a Capriccio for bassoon and orchestra by Giuseppe Verdi. In 1993 he recorded, as a soloist, a concert of Vivaldi with Riccardo Muti and the Filarmonica della Scala for EMI. In 2002 he was on tour with the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Orchestra and he played as a soloist at Musikverein in Wien and Teatro alla Scala. Being a permanent member of the main Orchestra in Italy, he cannot teach in Italian Conservatorio, so he can only teach in private institutions. Since 1997 he has been teacher at Riva del Garda Masterclasses and he is regularly invited at the Hamamatsu International Wind Academy. From 2002 till 2005 he has been teaching at “Festival delle Nazioni” Summer Classes in Città di Castello . From 2003 to 2009 he is taught at the prestigious annual courses in the Villa Veneta Ca’ Zenobbio in Treviso. He has been Guest Professor at the Padova University in the years 2007-2010. Presently he is faculty member at Teatro alla Scala and Fondazione Toscanini Academies. He made masterclasses in Stuttgart Mh and Wuerzburg Mh. From september 2011 he’s sharing a New International Bassoon class in Maastricht-Nederlands with Prof. Albrecht Holder and is Leherauftrag in Koeln MH by Prof. Georg Kluetsch.
