The XXXVII edition of the International Courses of Musical Perfectioning organised by the Sergio Gaggia Music Association and the Municipality's Culture Department, under the artistic direction of Maestro Andrea Rucli, was held in Cividale del Friuli from 31 July to 15 August 2024. This event now represents a tradition that Cividale del Friuli guards with great pride given its exceptional cultural relevance. Hearing the historic centre come alive with music thanks to internationally renowned masters and talented students from all over the world is incomparable and gives further beauty to the city, which thus becomes a large, diffuse musical installation, with classes located everywhere. The young instrumentalists, often present with their families, also had the opportunity to discover the beauties of the ducal city and taste its food and wine specialities.
The Courses present an outstanding teaching team that looks forward to their Cividale period every year. Among others, world-renowned pianist Anna Fedorova, Daniel Rowland on violin and Maja Bogdanovic and Thomas Carroll on cello are back. It was a great honour for Cividale to host for the first time Boris Garlitsky, one of the most important international professors of the violin, the great pianist Konstantin Lifschitz, the renowned cellist Justus Grimm, and the exceptional bows of Anna Kandinskaja, Tatiana Samouil, Solenne Paidassi and Aylen Pritchin. The Courses resulted in a full-bodied concert programme for the entire first half of August: the citizens breathed the air of the great international chamber music festivals thanks to the exceptional musical quality offered in prestigious venues, including the private gardens of the Pontotti-Brosadola and Costantini palaces and the vineyard of the Monastery of Santa Maria in Valle, with thematic programmes as extensive as they were enjoyable.
