Biography:
Leon Bosch
was born in the south of Holland and grew up as a musician in the middle of the
great Dutch wind band tradition.
While studying clarinet and conducting at the Conservatory of Maastricht he won an
audition with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and was offered a job as
piccolo clarinet.
From 1989 he is principal clarinet of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in
Amsterdam.
For a couple of years he was guest principal clarinet with the WDR Radio Orchestra
in Cologne, Germany and he appeared several times as a guest principal clarinet
with most of the major Dutch orchestra’s such as Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
As a soloist he performed works by Wolfgang Mozart, Giaccomo Rossini,
Carl Maria von Weber, Johann Stamitz, Artie Shaw and Oscar Navarro in Holland
and abroad.
He is a great admirer of chamber music and as being so he played with some of
world’s most famous musicians such as Christian Zacharias - piano,
Philippe Entremont - piano, Daniele de Niese - soprano,
Anna Bonitatibus - mezzo-soprano, Vesselina Kasarova - mezzosoprano,
Gordan Nikoliç - violin , Leon Bosch - double bass.
As a senior teacher and player he is often consulted by students from various
conservatories in the Netherlands.
Since 2008 he is professor of clarinet at the Conservatory of Maastricht.
He has been teaching masterclasses also abroad in Germany, Italy, China and
there are plans for Korea in 2018.
Besides being a professional clarinet player and teacher Leon Bosch is also a
active conductor.
In the early 90’s he started conducting student orchestra’s in Amsterdam and
Utrecht. His repertoire goes from classic to jazz and today he finds time to be
chief-conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra ‘Mozart’ Amsterdam,
Symphonic Wind Band of Heemstede and the Domstads Wind Ensemble Utrecht.
