Biography:

Fabian Menzel began studying with Ingo Goritzki in Hannover already before school-leaving examination. Whyle studying he was member of the "Junge Deutsche Philharmonie" . Menzel is laureate of "Deutscher Musikrat" 1985 and 1986 of the International Music Contest "ARD-Wettbewerb" as well as from the "Brüder-Busch-Gesellschaft". Fabian Menzel was first solo-oboist in the Radio-Syphony-Orchestra Frankfurt (RSO) from 1983 - 2004. In addition to his musicial work in the RSO Frankfurt with the chief conductors Eliahu Inbal, Dimitri Kitajenko and Hugh Wolff, Fabian Menzel played as solo-oboist also in other famous orchestras with conductors like Sergiu Celibidache, Lorin Maazel, Wolfgang Sawallisch and Erich Leinsdorf. He also produced for the chamber-music-studio of the Hessischer Rundfunk and played as soloist in "Mozartfest Würzburg" , "Weilburger Schloßkonzerten" and the Festival "Musik im 20. Jahrhundert" (Saarbrücken). As soloist he had among others also a focus to oboe music literature of the 20th century . So the Hessische Rundfunk released in 2003 a double-CD with oboe-concertos from the 20th century with the RSO and Fabian Menzel as soloist. As well the Radio-Orchestra Saarbrücken published in 2006 the three oboe-concertos of Bruno Maderna with Fabian Menzel as soloist. With his duopartner Bernhard Endres, he recorded for ANTHES/BELLA MUSICA on 7 CD´s a much noticed Anthology with chamber music for oboe and piano which gives an overview not only over the standards of oboe music literature but also over more unknown works. Since 2004 Fabian Menzel is playing as a free solo-oboist for well-known orchestras as e.g. the RSO Frankfurt, the WDR-Symphony-Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, RadioPhilharmonie Hannover, Radio-Orchestra Saarbrücken and the chamber orchestra of Württemberg. From 2010 to 2016 he was solo-oboist in Nordic Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn, chief conducter Anu Tali. 2010 he was asked to be foundation member of the Skyline Symphony chamber orchestra with chief conductor Michael Sanderling. In 1987 Fabian Menzel was asked to establish a new oboe class at the Acadamy of Music and Arts in Frankfurt and in 1998 he there was appointed professor. Soon after the beginning of his teaching the first student became solo-oboist at the Opera Stuttgart; in the meanwhile many of his recent pupils have leading positions in several radio- and opera-orchestras in Germany (WDR Cologne, MDR Leipzig, theatre orchestras e.g. in Stuttgart, Mannheim, Kassel, München, Augsburg) as well as in Austria (Bruckner-Orchestra Linz), Italy (Milano, Scala), Danmark (Royal Opera Kopenhagen), Greece (Thessaloniki State Orchestra), the Czech Republic (Radio Pilsen) and Egypt (Opera Kairo).
